STAR Program
What is STAR?
STAR is the New York State School Tax Relief program that provides an exemption on a portion of school property taxes for owner-occupied, primary residences. There are two types of STAR exemptions: Enhanced and Basic.

Enhanced STAR Exemption
The Enhanced STAR exemption is available to senior citizens whose 2008 Adusted Gross incomes do not exceed $74,700 for the 2010 Assessment Roll. The Enhanced Star exemption requires an annual filing with the assessor's office - You must apply or re-apply by March 1, 2010, in order to receive this exemption on your 2010 School Tax Bill.

Basic STAR Exemption
The Basic STAR exemption is available to all other persons who own and live in a one-, two-, or three-family residence or condominium. The Basic Star requires a one-time only application as long as the ownership circumstances do not change.

2008 Middle Class STAR Rebate Program
The Middle Class STAR Rebate Program is sponsored by the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. The Brighton Assessor’s office does not administer this program. Please direct all questions to the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance.
