The Assessment Review Board reviews complaints filed during the formal grievance process by residents pertaining to assessment of their home. The purpose of the Board is to arrive at fair and impartial decisions regarding assessments of property in Brighton.
Members are appointed by the Town Board and do not include the Assessor or staff from the Assessor's Office. The Board consists of residents who have at least a general knowledge of property values in the community.
The Town Board appoints members of the Assessment Review Board. Formal reviews are conducted annually on the 4th Tuesday in May at the Brighton Town Hall.
Assessment complaint applications are available in the Assessor's Office on May 1st of each year. Appointments to appear before the Board of Assessment Review (which meets on the 4th Tuesday of each May), are made as completed forms are returned to the Assessor's Office.
Early filing is always encouraged.
