Task Force History

The idea of the Green Brighton (GB) Task Force was introduced by Supervisor Frankel in her 2007 State of the Town address and was further motivated by the Town Council’s resolution in May 2007 endorsing the Mayors’ Climate Protection Agreement. The mission of the Task Force is to empower and encourage the Town of Brighton and its residents to use resources efficiently with an eye toward long-term sustainability and stewardship of our local and global environment.

Our goal is to reduce our community’s use of fossil fuels; by lowering the emissions associated with fossil fuels, we reduce our contribution to global warming.

Our objectives are threefold:
bullet.gif To educate all those living and working in Brighton about how to reduce their energy use
bullet.gif To evaluate the energy used in Town operations and to make recommendations about how the Town can save energy, either through new practices or new technologies
bullet.gif To recommend modifications to the Town Codes that encourage or require environmentally friendly design, materials, and/or practices

The task force has identified five issue areas that are central to our focus on reducing energy and resource consumption. These are:

   1. Land use management (natural and built environment)
   2. Green building
   3. Energy efficiency
   4. Green power
   5. Transportation planning

Task Force Structure
The Task Force consists of a steering committee and three committees corresponding to each of the three objectives.
