Historic Preservation Commission
About the Commission
The duties of the seven-member Historic Preservation Commission include:
- The designation of Town landmarks
- The development of public education programs aimed at increasing awareness of the value of historic preservation
- The analysis of feasibility of façade easements and the analysis of the feasibility of acquiring property by the Town government where its preservation is essential and where private preservation is not feasible
- Makes recommendations to the Zoning Board of Appeals and Planning Board regarding application before those Boards relating to properties that include landmarks.
Members
At least one member of the Board is a professional architect or civil engineer licensed in the State, and at least two members must own a historic landmark or structure in the Town. Members are appointed by the Town Board for four-year terms.
